Sphero Edu provides a toolset that is unbounded in its potential. While coding and 21st century skills are necessary, our program also goes beyond code by incorporating robotics and technology with collaborative STEAM activities, nurturing students’ imaginations in ways no other education program can.

What makes SPRK+ unique?

  • SPRK+ Creates an equal learning environment – and it includes tools that are gender neutral and use subject matters that prepare students to learn 21st century skills.
    SPRK+ Makes it relatable – to jobs and interests. And rather than pure programming, we focus elements such as creative-problem solving. But most of all we make it easily accessible and FUN!
  • SPRK+ is such a versatile tool that engages students and people from all walks of life to build, create and reinvent the way STEM is being taught in and outside of the classroom.
  • With the ability to program the SPRK+ robot three ways using the Sphero EDU app, all students can engage. From draw and drive commands to block-based or even JavaScript text programming, SPRK+ focuses on learner progression.  Programming continues to be a new modern language, and we are teaching it and making it fun!
  • Our education program goes beyond code by incorporating collaborative STEAM Lesson Plans, giving students memorable, project-based learning experiences.
    Activities span programming skills, constructionism, design, art, and hard science like math and physics.
  • We don’t expect every student to be a programmers but the logic and skills acquired can be used in life.

While code is at the core of everything we do at Sphero, the world’s teachers and students taught us something. Sphero Edu isn’t about code, it’s beyond code and we’re continuously inspired by the innovative ways our robots are being used in education. Code is not the end but rather a means to the end providing students with a new medium of demonstrating learning.

  1. One ball fits all coding needs!

    These robotic balls are quickly becoming a main stay in any coding curriculum. With strong Bluetooth connectivity and a quality build, they rarely go wrong and work for a solid 60 mins on a full charge.

    This is the one piece of coding kit that I use that goes into Kintergarten classrooms as well as our yr 7/8 classrooms. It supports all stages of coding including some complicated text code modules.

    The Sphero Edu app has some excellent tutorial projects.

  2. A durable, flexible tool with 3rd party apps encourages kids to tinker and code

    Spheros have proven to be a hit at our school for a number of reasons.
    They are durable which is key when you are investing in a piece of robotics kit. They are flexible because you can programme them using anything from computers to iPads.

    Because they are waterproof, they open up entirely new ways to engage with children that you can’t do with any other coding bot. For example giving them a submergible course to navigate. Likewise, you can take them outside to give the children a new place to learn. if they drop it, it won’t break.

    We feel that Spheros really bring programming to life. Children can see an immediate end result from the code that they input. The inputs are highly variable, for example our children recently programmed them so that when someone smiled it goes forward, and when they frowned it goes backwards.

    Their robustness and flexibility of inputs makes them great for SEN.

    There are lots of 3rd party apps which we can recommend, for example Tynker & Tickle.

    Spheros are on the expensive side of things but there are mini-spheros now which are more affordable. To help them reach more schools in the UK I would suggest an education discount and a less-US centric focus.

    Overall, I’m very impressed and find them great value for money.
